2004 ARA Phillies Coaches' Notes

Tuesday, April 27, 2004

In a word...AWESOME!!! Our hitting and fielding were superb. Once again we played together as a team, resulting in the first of many victories to come.

Some notes from the game:

  • Kiersten, Laura, Maggie, and Ariel gain kudos for slugging extra-base hits.
  • Amy did her job as leadoff hitter by getting on base three times and scoring three runs.
  • Great job by Kiersten and Rachael for having three RBI's each.
  • Congrats to Laura for a well pitched game with four strikeouts, but only two walks along with two excellent fielding plays (with a soggy glove, to boot!).
  • Amanda earned the utmost respect from the coaches for finishing an inning and throwing out a runner at first despite taking a ball off her face.

We wish to convey many thanks to everyone for showing up for an earlier than expected game due to a sudden schedule change.

Practice is tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Triple Crown Batting Cages (please remember to bring $3). Please note that have games this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday at 1 PM each day.

Keep up the great teamwork!!!

It was very exciting to see the team play as a unit, cheering for one another, singing the songs from the dugout. The most important thing is playing as a team, winning is the second most important thing. You were a team last night, and winning will come.

Maggie, you did a great job coming in cold and pitching very well. Congratulations to Jenny Rose for going three for three at the plate. Laura, you did a great job catching, and a game highlight was the double play on the bunt. Amanda and Martina, good job in the outfield catching those fly balls. The fielding as a whole was very good. Base running needs some work. Remember to watch your base coach for the steal signs.

We are planning to hit the cages, again, to give you girls some practice. Our hitting needs to improve. We left too many runners on base at crucial times. (We are just like the real Phillies!) The tenative date for the cages is next Wednesday (April 28th) --- we'll get back to you with the time.

No excuses, but it was tough to play that last inning in the dark. Let's get the next one, girls.

A special thank you to Joan Klinger for coaching first base.
